Google

Google previewed Chrome OS today and announced that it would be open source. From what they showed in the presentation it looks very interesting. The OS will boot into the Chrome browser and all applications and data will live on the net. They have basically redesigned how a computer will boot, manage security, access applications and surf the web.

Microsoft Tag

June 17th, 2009 Brian Carver No comments

Interesting picture, do you agree? What if I told you that the image to the left contains my contact information? I came across a interesting technology that Microsoft is working on that allows small images called tags to either contain contact information, a url to a website, general text or a link to your cell phone dialer.

Microsoft’s description of their technology is: “Microsoft Tag connects real life with the digital world. Microsoft Tags are small, colorful codes that can be printed, stuck, or displayed just about anywhere. When you snap a Tag with the camera on your internet-enabled phone, additional information or experiences are automatically opened on your phone. There is no fumbling with URLs or texting short codes. Microsoft Tags can make product packages, posters, print-based ads, magazine articles, exhibit signage, billboards, storefronts, business card, or just about anything else, interactive.”

This technology will allow true interactivity with magazines, newspapers, flyers and all kinds of web or print material.

My tag at the top of the article includes my contact information and if you want to read it you will need to go to http://www.microsoft.com/tag/ to download the tag reader software for your cell phone from Microsoft.

Power Of Social Networking

It is pretty amazing to realize the power of social networking. How is it powerful you ask?

Well just take a look at the election process going on in Iran. The government of Iran is trying to limit or all together stop, the use of the internet to report the election fraud but are finding that resourceful internet users reporting on Twitter are hard to sop.

It’s one of the first times in our history that we can get uncensored live reports from the average person and really understand what is going on. This medium, Twitter.com has become so important in fact that when Twitter.com announced a 90 minute maintenance outage, the US state department stepped in and requested that the maintenance be rescheduled and it was.

Quote.Yahoo.Com

I ran into a problem tonight with Yahoo’s stock quote page http://quote.yahoo.com where we have been getting quotes for some time. All of our servers that use this suddenly stoped returning current stock prices. After many hours of trouble shooting and research we finally found that Yahoo must have turned off that page but http://finance.yahoo.com is working. I am not sure if there was any notice of this happening or not, but I know I didnt get any.
